Four Theories for Backward Simulation Data-Refinement

This paper investigates data-refinement by backward simulation. We introduce four distinct theories and demonstrate that these are all equivalent. One theory, SB-refinement, serves as a normative characterisation of backwards refinement. The other model-theoretic characterisations illuminate the standard approach involving non-strictly lifted relational completion operators.
